Contradictions on Jesus
Back ] Next ]

There are contradictions in the Gospel accounts and such contradictions also prove that the Gospels do not constitute a revelation of God or that human interference has changed the original revelation out of recognition. Any ordinary author possessing an ordinary measure of consistency will not allow  contradiction in what he writes. How then can we tolerate contradiction in a 'Book of God' ?

108 Human vs. Ghostly impregnation Acts 2:30 Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; Mathew 1:18 Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost.

114 Is Jesus humble ? Mathew 11:29 Jesus says that he is gentle (meek) and humble (lowly).

John 2:15 Jesus makes a whip of cords, drives the money changers from the Temple, overturns their tables, and pours out their coins. (Note: The presence of the money changers in the outer court of the Temple had been authorized by the Temple authorities and was, in fact, a necessity since the Jews would not accept Roman coin for the purchase of sacrifices.)
115 What is his name ? Mathew 1:23 He will be called Emmanuel (or Immanuel).

Mathew 1:25 Instead, he was called Jesus.
116 Honour or dishonour Mathew 1:20-23, Luke 1:26-33 An angel announces to Joseph and/or Mary that the child (Jesus) will be "great," the "son of the Most High," etc., and ....

Mark 3:21 Jesus' own relatives (or friends) attempt to constrain him, thinking that he might be out of his mind, and ....

117 Situation prevailed during the birth of the God (Jesus) ??? Mathew 2:13-16 Following the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary flee to Egypt, (where they stay until after Herod's death) in order to avoid the murder of their firstborn by Herod. Herod slaughters all male infants two years old and under. (Note: John the Baptist, Jesus' cousin, though under two is somehow spared without fleeing to Egypt.)

Luke 2:22-40 Following the birth of Jesus, Joseph and Mary remain in the area of Jerusalem for the Presentation (about forty days) and then return to Nazareth without ever going to Egypt. There is no slaughter of the infants.

Genealogy of the Jesus

In two places in the New Testament the genealogy of Jesus son of Mary (PBUH) is mentioned. Matthew 1:6-16 and Luke 3:23-31. Each gives the ancestors of Joseph the CLAIMED husband of Mary and Step father of Jesus (PBUH). The first one starts from Abraham (verse 2) all the way down to Jesus. The second one from Jesus all the way back to Adam. The only common name to these two lists between David and Jesus is JOSEPH, How can this be true? and also How can Jesus have a genealogy when all Muslims and most Christians believe that Jesus had/has no father.
No Event Contradicting statement Contradicting statement
121 Who is the grandfather of the God (Jesus) ??? Luke 3 : 23 , Joseph the husband of Mary was the son of Heli. Mathew 1:16 , Joseph was son of Jacob
[There are many other discrepancies between the lists in Matthew 1 and Luke 3. Some say that the list in Luke shows Mary's genealogy, but the key expression in Luke 3:23 is clearly "son of Heli", not "son-in-law of Heli". The same word translated there as "son" was used throughout the entire list.]
122 God's another ancestry confusion ??? Luke 3 : 31 , Jesus descended from David through Nathan  Mathew 1: 6 traces the ancestry of Jesus through Nathan's bother, Solomon the King
Note: Some apologists assert that Luke traces the lineage through Mary. That this is untrue is obvious from the context since Luke and Matthew both clearly state that Joseph was Jesus' father
123 Did Jesus descend from David through David's son Solomon and grandson Roboam? Mathew 1:1-7
Jesus descend from David through David's son Solomon and grandson Roboam
Luke 3:23,31

Luke 1:41 Elizabeth had it long before Jesus went away.
Luke 1:67 So did Zechariah.
Luke 2:25 So did Simeon.
Luke 11:13 It is obtained by prayer (presumably at any time).

John 7:39, John 16:7, Acts 1:3-5 The Holy Spirit cannot come into the world until after Jesus has departed.
127 Great mistake on the genealogy of the God (Jesus) !!! In the genealogy Mathew, we have Joseph to Abraham forty- one (41) persons.  In the genealogy of Luke , we have fifty-six (56 ) persons. Besides this, the names in the two genealogies do not correspond

Mathew 1:18-21 The Annunciation occurred after Mary had conceived Jesus. Luke 1:26-31 It occurred before conception.

134 God went to Galilee or to the wood soon after his baptism? Mathew 1: 19- 44 / Mark 1:12 / Luke 4:1, it appears that Jesus, after receiving baptism from John, went to the woods to have a trial of strength with Satan and remained there for forty days. John 1: 19 -44 , it appears that Jesus after remaining with John and his disciples for a few days, Jesus went straight to Galilee.

135 God Left same day or stayed two days !!! Mathew 3:13-17 / Mark 1: 9-12 / Luke 3: 21-22 and 4:1 it appears that Jesus received Baptism from John and  he left him at once or on the same day. but in the Gospel of John, there is no mention of any baptism and the meeting between Jesus and John is said to have lasted two days.

142 Jesus Enters Boat Mathew 14:27-32  With an "I.D." test of Jesus by Peter John 6:20,21 Without an "I.D." test of Jesus by Peter
143 Jesus Enters Boat Mathew 14:32-34 While boat's in middle of lake. John 6:21While boat's at shore of lake.

145 During the Devil tempted God ( Jesus) ?

146 Did Jesus stay in Simon's house or a house of Pharisee ? Mathew 26:6-7 Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon ...there came a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured in on his head, as he sat at meat.  Luke 7:36.....he went into the Pharisee's house,.. a  woman of

148 Jesus' first sermon plain or mount? Mathew.5:1,2:, 7:29 "And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying...."

Jesus delivers his most noteworthy sermon while on the mount.

Jesus delivers his most noteworthy sermon while on the plain. (Note: No such sermons are mentioned in either Mark or John and Paul seems totally unfamiliar with either the sermon on the mount or the sermon on the plain.)
150 Way of speech ?

Mathew 13:34, Mark 4:34 Jesus addresses the crowds only in parables, so that they would not fully understand. He explains the meaning only to his disciples.

John 1:1 - 21:25 (Throughout the book of John, unlike the other Gospels, Jesus addresses the crowds in a very straightforward manner. He does not employ parables.)
