Are Christians of today idol worshipers?
by Brother.Osama Abdallah

(Just for those folks who misunderstood me, I love Christians and I have nothing against them).

The Bible was  formerly published in Hebrew. In the Middle Ages it was translated into Latin and was titled ITALA. When Christianity began to spread ,pagans and Jews opposed it. So much so that the Christians had to hold their faith secret. They worshipped in temples which they built under the ground, in caves in rocks, in secret places, Worshipping at such dark places deviated them all the more, and caused them to fable various silly stories. They made statues of Jesus. They adopted the cross as their Symbol. They began to worship the statues and the cross, in other words, they relapsed into idolatry. They admitted Jesus as the son of God. But Jesus had never said such a thing to them, he had only told them about the Holy Ghost, that is the supernatural power endowed upon him by Almighty Allah. Having had to believe the divinity of Jesus, who they believe to be the son of God and of the Holy Ghost alongside that of God, they broke from the belief in “ one and unchanging Creator”, which has been the basis of all true religions, and reduced themselves to the ridiculous state of worshipping three deities, (which ) is called “trinity”.

How we worship God is important.  We should worship in the way that he says, even though this may be different from the way that we have been taught.  For example, it has been the custom for some Christians to use images such as images of Jesus on the Cross, or images (idols) of Mary the virgin in their worships.  They may say that they do not worship the image, but that seeing and touching it helps them to worship God.  Yet does God want us to worship him with the aid of images?  No, he does not.

Let us look at Deuteronomy 4:15-19 "And you must take good care of your souls, because you did not see any form on the day of Jehovah's speaking to you in Ho'reb out of the middle of the fire, that you may not act ruinously and may not really make for yourselves a carved image, the form of any symbol, the representation of male or female, the representation of any beast that is in the earth, the representation of any winged bird that flies in the heavens, the representation of any fish that is in the waters under the earth; and that you may not raise your eyes to the heavens and indeed see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the army of the heavens and actually get seduced and bow down to them and serve them, which Jehovah your God has apportioned to all the peoples under the whole heavens." .  Here we see two things:  First, God told the people of Israel that he never appeared to them in any way shape or form, and second, he prohibited them to create any images to represent God.  This is the reason why Moses (peace be upon him) told the Israelites that God never appeared to them in any visible form.

In fact, one of the Ten Commandments says "You shall not make yourself a carved image or any likeness of anything...you shall not bow down to them or serve them." (Exodus 20:4-5).  Only God should be worshiped.  Over and over again the Bible shows how wrong it is to make an image or to bow before it, or worship anyone or anything except God as in (Isaiah 44:14-20, Isaiah 46:6-7, Psalm 115:4-8).

Jesus who worshiped God in (Luke 5:16) never used images in worship.  "God is a Spirit, and those worshiping him must worship with spirit and truth." (John 4:24).  Acting in harmony with this counsel, none of Jesus' early followers used images as aids in worship.  In fact, his apostle Paul wrote: "We are walking by faith, not by sight." (2 Corinthians 5:7).  And apostle John warned: "Guard yourselves from idols." (1 John 5:21).  Also in (Deuteronomy 7:25) the Jews were ordered by God to burn idols and never use them in worship.

Worshiping God, the Creator, in the way he directs is certain to bring us genuine happiness as in (Jeremiah 14:22). The Bible shows that his requirements are for our good, with our eternal welfare in view.  It is true that there may be times, because of our limited knowledge and experience, that we do not fully appreciate why a certain law given by God is so important, or how it really works for our good.  Yet our firm belief that God knows far more than we do should move us to obey him with a willing heart as in (Psalm 19:7-11).  Let us, then make every effort to learn all we can about God, accepting the invitation: "O come in, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before Jehovah our maker.  For he is our God, and we are the people of his pasturage and the sheep of his hand." (Psalm 95:6-7).

This paragraph was sent to me by brother Adnan Ahmed may Allah Almighty be pleased with him: "Concerning your great passage on Christians worshiping idols, I wonder if you heard about the iconoclastic controversy that occurred in the Byzantine and Russian Empires around the time of Justinian. Christians killed each other about this subject you wrote about. It was resolved by the scholars that it was ok for 2d images to be shown and nothing more.  That still caused unrest and until today it is still debated."

The following was sent to me by brother Abdul Rahman; may Allah Almighty always be pleased with him:

"I like to state the fact that although the Protestants do not have pictures and statues as the Catholics do, they are as equally guilty as the latter of the crime of idol-worshipping.

Why do I say that?

Let us define the meaning of idol-worship:

Idol-worship means the worshipping of a statue or a human being or power or money or status or property etc. The list is endless.

Idol-worship is not confined to religions alone. It is evident in so many aspects of real life.

As long as a Christian regards Jesus(peace be upon him) as God, he is an idol-worshipper."

Conclusion:

I hope that I was able to show you that Christians today do not follow their religion in the right way.  They do not worship God in the appropriate way that they are supposed to.  Christian priests and ministers have added so many corruptions and disagreements to their religion that Christianity no longer became a valid absolute pure religion from God.  Man's corruption and disagreements in the Bible had devastated the Bible's purity and accuracy.  The religion of Islam on the other hand is a pure uncorrupted religion of God.  Muslims respect God Almighty way better than Christians do in their worship.  The religion of Islam is an organized uncorrupted religion of God, and it's prophecy of remaining like that until the day of judgment is still fulfilled.  I welcome you to open your heart to Islam and to follow it.
