- Sister Aminah Assilmi
was a Southern Baptist, a radical feminist and a broadcast
journalist.
- She discovered Islam
in college while trying to convert others to Christianity.
- She accepted Islam in
1977 and presently, she is an ambassador of Islam.
- She was married and
had three children, when her husband asked for a divorce, as she
adjusted her life style to Islam.
- Subsequently, the
courts denied her custody of her children because of her conversion,
unless she gave up Islam, which she refused to do.
- Upon deciding to wear
the hijab, she lost her job as an award-winning broadcaster in
Denver. Since then, her ex-husband, her children, and her parents -
ALL have embraced Islam (Allahu Akbar!)
- She is currently the
Director of International Union of Muslim Women.
- She travels
extensively speaking on college campuses, increasing public
awareness and understanding of the faith.
