1. " If ye love me keep my commandments and I will pray the father, and he shall give you another comforter that he may abide with you for ever" (John 14:15-16)
2. " But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all thing to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you" (John 14:26)
3. " But, when the comforter is come whom I will send you the Father, even the spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify me" (John 15:26)
4. " Nevertheless, I tell you the truth, It is expedient for you that I go away, for; if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but, if I depart I will send him unto you" (John 16:7)
5. " I have yet many things to say unto you, but, ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit, when he, the Spirit of Truth, is come, he will guide you unto all truth; for he shall not speak of himself; but, whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak and he will show you things to come" (John 16:12-13
Christians argue that this prophecy of their master about the 'Comforter' refers to the ' Holy Ghost ', because, the expressions 'Holy Ghost' and the ' Spirit of Truth' occurs in it. But
1. According to Bible, the Holy ghost has been ' coming ' to the world right from the day of its creation ( genesis 1:2).
2. The Holy Ghost has even been a constant companion of Jesus Christ, for example, at his Baptism " Descending like a dove, and lighting upon him " (Mathew 3:16)
3. Besides, it is also record that after his crucifixion and before his ascension, Christ " Breathed on them (disciples) and saith unto them, Receive ye the Holy Ghost" (John 20:22). This shows that Christ's disciples had RECEIVED that holy Ghost BEFORE Christ left the world.
But Christ's words clearly show that the 'coming' of the Comforter depends on Christ's leaving the world- that is, the Comforter is one who has not come to the world at any time Before.
Further, the Holy Ghost, according to the Christians, is as the third person of the Trinity, Very God, like God the Father, and god the Son, Co-Equal, Co-Eternal and Co-existent, and Omniscient, Omnipotent and Omnipresent.
How can, therefore, The Holy Ghost , be the Comforter , "who shall not speak of himself " But " Whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak" - Which is only the function of a prophet, ' who hears the Words of God revealed to him, and speaks or communicates them to his people in order to guide them on the right path under his personal influence'
